Dear So and So...

Dear So and So...

Dear Landlord,

I do understand that you want to raise the value of this house and really appreciate that you waited with putting a new radiator into the upstairs apartment until the break so almost nobody would be here.
I also understand that you had to let all the water out of the system in order to connect the new radiator to it but the sound of the water coming back into the radiators and pipes drives me NUTS.
I feel like I live in a friggin' fish tank.

Dear parents of the screaming toddler yesterday at the store,

you guys made my day and I enjoyed seeing you!
Because I could walk away and go back into my quiet apartment.

I don't heeear ya!

Dear brain,

why can't you just suck in all the chemistry knowledge overnight?
Might it be helpful if I slept on the book?

need to know it all
Dear neighbors,

I have astonishing news for you!
Sit down and listen carefully...
These weird things on doors, called locks, are actually there to keep the door close.
I do not appreciate waking up at stupid o'clock, going to the bathroom, wondering why it is so cold and check and find the front door open!|
That's not why I pay for heating.
Plus don't come to me whining when you find yourself mugged one day.

Annoyed LTCC
Dear doctor's office,

as of Wednesday you lost a valued customer.
I am not that kind of person that runs to see the doctor if there is as much as a cough and a runny nose.
But if I tell you that breathing hurts, then I do get mad at you if you hint that you think I might have just come into your office to get a sick day.
I am a student, I am off for months. DUH.
And it doesn't help if your front desk b*tch lady treats my like I tried to kill the pope when I asked her to print out a referral.
How am I supposed to know that I have to "order" referrals right when I get there if nobody told me so??
But you are right, during those two hours that I spent in the waiting room, you could have written dozens of referrals, my bad, I should have thought about that earlier.
Plus, I don't like the concept of your office, that patients get to see whoever is available at the moment.
There was one nice lady which I saw when I was sick in November, but I didn't get to see her since. The other ones...forget about them.
But that will change, I will not come back to your office, there are plenty of doctors in town.

good riddance

Dear Mom,

I look forward to seeing you tomorrow! =)
Drive safe!

Dear readers,

I was totally surprised when this morning my "stolen" mail arrived.
It looks really torn and by now I think it got stuck in a mail sorting machine or so.
But it is here now and that's all that counts. :)
I didn't make a decision regarding my online studies yet.
Last night I was convinced I would quit but then I logged in again and heard some lessons and it is still really interesting.
I am thinking about trying another semester and then make a decision but I gave myself time until the weekend to decide that.
I managed to study a bit today, did some online research to find a new eye doctor and dentist and that was it for today I guess. :)
Dinner is cooking (pasta with pesto) and I will watch the Olympic team skijumping competition now. :)

The day ends better than it started

I was able to convert all the negative energy that was floating around here into something positive:
I cleaned the whole apartment and I filed away the notes and materials from the dreaded exam which were still flying around here.
By the way, I learned on Friday that I passed it. :D
The mark is not the best, but for now I am glad I don't have to retake it.
All my other marks will be better I promised myself.
Later I watched a movie, then some TV and had pizza and a hot chocolate afterward.
Now I spent the past 2 hours doing research regarding my online studies.
I didn't have much time for it and while I was not logged in and didn't take part in any discussion, many things went on and changed.
I know that I won't have much time for it, if any at all so I am discussing if I should quit it completely.
I mean after all, it cost money.
Plus, the good grades which I earned in the past with my assignments will not be fully recognized anymore.
But on the other hand it was fun and really interesting.
Not sure what to do though.
I have to find out if I can quit now and then in a few years (or so) pick up where I left and go on...hmmm.
I'll try to talk to the Prof tomorrow and then we shall see.

not my day

This is SO not my day.
I wrote a post rambling about this crappy Sunday.
Then I decided to hold it back because I realized I was starving and figured I might be in a better mood after I ate something.
So I went to the kitchen to produce some scrambled eggs.
I whipped up three eggs in a bowl, added spices and stuff and then waited for the ham cubes to fry so I could put the eggs in.
And guess what: While waiting I KNOCKED OVER that bowl and spilled all of it.
SO not my day.
Luckily I had 3 eggs left and was able to produce new eggs, but this is not my day.

So here you go, the initial post:
First, I ruined my coffee. Then I got an unpleasant mail from somebody in reply of a mail I sent yesterday which was not meant like the recipient thought it was. Sent a mail back. Whatever.
And I realized that I overslept and the bakery was already closed for the day...
Then I went outside trying to find my stolen mail. The real mail this time.
I was hoping that as soon whoever who took it open it he/she would realize that they can't use it at all and throw it away.
Went through our trashcans and then through the cans at the bus stop.
No luck there.
Now I have to deal with the insurance company tomorrow, bc my health insurance card was in that envelope.
What a great Sunday....

I would say I am a pretty easygoing person.
There are only a few things that REALLY piss me off.
Somebody stealing my mail is on of those things...

Dear So and So...

Dear So and So...

Inspired by Mom in High Heels I decided to jump on the bandwagon and join the Dear so and so-letter authors initiated by Kat .

Dear neighbors,
we do recycle and I really like it.
Since supposedly all of you are students (which I didn't verify yet but I take my landlords word for it) I assume that you can tell the different trashcans apart.
And since this is Germany and you study at German universities/schools which required a proof of knowledge of the German language you should be able to read what is written on the trashcans, just in case nobody introduced this system to you.
So WHY can't you just put your trash where it belongs?
It is only 3 different cans, that is not so hard...

concerned about the environment,

Dear wind,
I know you want to show off and I appreciate your efforts to blow the last snow away, but WHY did you have to knock over the darn trashcan??
It was no fun to collect all the paper (and other stuff, see above) from the front yard.

glad-for-rubber gloves,

Dear Austrian Ski Association,

do yourself a favor and just shut up!
Your best athlete was not good enough for the gold medal.
Your sorry attempt of pinning something on the winner is just pathetic.
I had my fingers crossed for someone else (no NOT from Austria) but I am happy for the actual winner too!
Face the reality: Your national number one is not the Olympic number one.
Now stop whining and play fair.

Yours disgusted

Dear bikers,

I think bike lanes are a great invention.
They give you space to pedal along.
Now would you please stay in that space??
I do not like to be run over by you guys on the side walk while I check the bike lane before I cross.
And there are two bike lanes, one on each side of the road, and you are supposed to go with the flow (traffic). Those HUGE white arrows painted on the ground are not just there to look nice.
I really wish police would do controls on that too.

yours annoyed

Dear library,
The fact that you send out emails to remind the customers that their media is due is really nice.
But I think sending said mails on the day that the books are due...this is a bit unlucky, don't you think?
Always screws up my whole plan for the day.

yours always late

Dear dishes,

please wash yourself, will you?

I had a hard time falling asleep last night, I kept on turning around and around, basically rotating in bed. Around 1:30 am I turned the light back on and read my book until around 4 am.
Of course I slept through all three of my alarms and woke up around 12:30 pm.
Really annoying.
I decided to stay on my plan for the day and went to town around 4 pm, ran some errands and then went to the movies.
I saw the movie "Friendship" which is about two young men from East-Germany who decided to go to America after the wall came down.
The father of one of them lived in San Francisco and he didn't see him after he fled from the DDR when the boy was 10 years old.
So they wanted to go to San Francisco. Unfortunately they could only afford tickets to New York City.
So they went there and started a crazy trip across the country.
I really enjoyed the movie, it was funny and what made it special for me was that I actually knew many of the places shown.
Plus, ca 50% of the movie are true. It is based on a true story.
Totally worth watching!!

Last night I cooked gnocchi with a spinach-gorgonzola-sauce.
The sauce was a bit disappointing so I decided to discard the leftover sauce and made the rest of the gnocchi into a salad, which was delicious!

much better

as I hoped I already feel much better.
I have no idea what this was but I am glad it is gone.
I had coffee in the afternoon and right now I am cooking dinner, I am starving. :D

sick and tired

On Sunday I didn't do much, it think I watched TV and read.
I actually thought about going to the movies but I figured Valentines Day wouldn't be the best day to go to the movies all by myself. :)
On Monday I went to see the Rosenmontagsumzug (the big carnival parade) here in town.
I actually found a spot to which I could walk from my place.
Parade started at noon, I left my place around noon and walked to that spot and still had to wait an hour until the first floats showed up.
It was fun to watch and I even caught some candy but it was freezing.
By the time I got home I wasn't able to feel my feet anymore despite my winter boots and extra socks.
So I didn't do much anymore on Monday.
I watched TV and watched some episodes of CSI :NY online.
I prefer watching those shows in their original language.
Yesterday was a low day as well and I really wanted to get going again today just to wake up to find myself not feeling well.
I wanted to work out again and start studying for the upcoming exams. Not that I didn't do anything before but I wanted to start the serious preparation.
I set my alarm to 8:30 (after all these are my days weeks off). When I woke up this morning I was hot, really hot. I don't have a fever yet but it goes from hot to cold and back...Plus I feel so sick that I can't even drink my coffee and if I can't drink my coffee something is seriously wrong. ;)
I however had a soup and I am having a smoothie right now.
I feel better than when I got up and I hope it (whatever it is) will be gone tomorrow.
I don't feel so bad that I have to lay down, I just can't focus on serious chemistry.
I think I will make this another low day with TV and some reading and trying to eat a bit more and I will go to bed early and hopefully will be ready to study tomorrow morning.
I might skip the workout for a few more days since my cough is still here, I have to see how it is going...

I ♥ hearts

In observance of the single-awareness-day tomorrow I decided to change the background.
Plus, I think it is cute! :)

I didn't do much these past days.
I went to campus twice.
The first time to drop off the books which I hopefully won't need anymore and to get a chemistry book.
And then I went yesterday to get my lab coat, just in case I decide to dress up and join the craziness called Karneval (carnival, scroll down to Rhineland) that is going on here right now.
I mean, please, stores closed on a regular day? Special bus schedule? Dressed up (funny to see) and wasted (not so funny) people wherever I look?
They should have mentioned it in the guide for new citizens which I got when I officially registered at the city hall...
I think next year I might be out of town coincidentally but this year I am here and I think I can as well have a closer look and therefore I need a disguise. :)
Beside that I did just the typical errands and that was it. :)
I stayed up late and slept in, worked out and watched TV.
But I will start studying for the upcoming exams soon.
Today I went to my favorite store again because I needed a birthday gift and some light bulbs.
I also got myself a funny hat which I might wear instead of my lab coat and scrubs. I mean if I just watch a parade, there is no need to freeze my rear end off while standing outside for hours.
And I didn't find accessories to go with my lab coat and scrubs...

The most important thing for me currently: The Games of Vancouver started last night.
I meant to get up early to watch the rerun of the opening ceremony but I overslept and just got to see the last hour or so, but it was still really nice.
I certainly will watch all the ski jumping competitions and as much of the ice hockey games as I can. I am not sure about the other competitions but maybe now and then I might watch some of those too. :)

I was really shocked when I heard about this horrible accident in which a luger died, even before the games were declared opened. :( That is really sad and my heart is with his family and friends.
This was the first fatality during Olympic winter games and I sure hope the last one as well.
I am really curious about what they will do about the luge competitions and if the organisators learned something from that accident....

I didn't get to watch much of the games 4 years ago since I did an internship in a kindergarten and lived with a family that didn't care much for the games and I would have felt pretty rude occupying their only TV the whole day.
8 years ago when the games were in Salt Lake City I would stay up late sometimes to watch a hockey game but I couldn't do so often since I was in my last months of school and had to get up early to go to school.

So I will enjoy those games now, as I am off and don't have to get up early and have my own TV to do as I please. :)

Which competition will YOU enjoy watching? Let me know!

Hope you all have a great Sunday with or without a significant other!

I am back

I was just busy with studying last week so I didn't have time to blog and didn't have anything to blog about anyways. :)
The most dreaded exam is finally over, now there are two more coming up in March. They will not be easy but hopefully not as hard as the one yesterday.
I basically spent the whole week behind my books, just left the house twice to go to the store and once to go to the laundromat.
Not a nice week but it is over.
And hopefully I passed this exam I don't feel like doing it again. :)
The English exam went as good as I thought, I got a straight A! :D

To celebrate the break (no lessons til March) and that two of the 4 exams are over and the grade for the English exam, me and some friends went out for drinks last night. Lot's of fun and much needed!
We found a bar which hosted a Ladies Night, means ladies pay 5 bucks and drink free the whole night.
Very nice. :D
Was home and in bed around 3 am and was woken by the phone at 12:30 pm today.
Didn't do much today, this was basically a day of recovering from last week.
Tonight I spoke to my host family on the phone again.
I wish I had the money to go to California right now...

Now I am watching some more TV, then I will go to bed, get up earlier tomorrow morning, hopefully get myself to do a workout and then I will take the bus and train to campus to return a ton of books which I needed to prepare for the last exam and hopefully get one which I need for the next one...
Studying for the two upcoming exams should be easier since there is more time left and there are no lectures til the end of March.
We basically are on vacation now!
Hope everybody has a great week!!

Do not try that at home (if you're on a diet)

Today was the first exam, English.
It went really well and everybody found it pretty easy. :)
We had 2 hours and I was done after like 45 minutes...

But I was not the first to leave the room.
We don't know when the results will be out but we all are pretty optimistic.
I also learned that I passed the test from Friday which made me almost happier than the English exam. ;)
So I went home happy.
Yesterday while studying, I had an inspiration regarding the layout of my living room/kitchen.
I wanted to wait til after the exam next Monday to try it but then I got home full of energy today and started moving furniture around.
It all fit like I hoped, even without measuring.
The room looks spacier now but I have to get used to it I guess.
I turn around all the time to put something on the table that is not there anymore...
Then I made dinner from scratch.
Actually using up the leftover ingredients from my Saturday (and Sunday) dinner and I have to admit, today's dinner tasted best. :)
On Saturday I did a veggie-potato-casserole, which was my first attempt on that ever.
It was pretty good I think.
I just overestimated the size of the pan and bought way to much stuff.
Plus, the pan is so big that I couldn't finish it on Saturday hence this was my Sunday dinner as well.
Today I tried another casserole since I had so much stuff left and even though I used exactly the same ingredients it was completely different.
And SO delicious.

layers of potatoes, cut bell peppers and tomatoes

mushrooms, onion and aubergines cooked with milk, cream cheese, cream and cheese

the mixture went on the other stuff, was covered with lot's of cheese and then it all went in the oven.

But it is heavy, including the cream cheese, cheese and cream...
So, don't try that at home if you're on a diet. :)
